Girl in a jacket

Artist & Designer

Jewelry metalsmithing is both an art and a calling for me, blending tradition with innovative ideas. Through the manipulation of metal, I explore historical relics and diverse textures, and transform these elements into unique sculptural art.

My journey began after earning a graduate degree in business administration, which instilled critical thinking and discipline. A chance apprenticeship at a metal design studio in Brooklyn, New York, marked a pivotal turn in my path. There, I mastered working with copper, brass, and sterling silver, and refined techniques like vitreous enamel, soldering, and sawing.

It wasn’t until my two eldest children started college that I fully embraced my passion for metalsmithing. Immersing myself in this intricate craft brought me immense fulfillment and joy.

Materials/ Process

I work primarily with non-tarnish sterling silver, brass, and gold, while also experimenting with unconventional materials like mesh, wood, and antique remnants—such as old porcelain, glass buttons, and letterpress dies. My process fuses modern technology with traditional methods to create original, thoughtful designs. Each piece is born from a spark of inspiration and is carefully developed through sketching, sampling, refining, and finally, handcrafting.

The result is jewelry that is as unique as the individuals who wear it.

Inspiration

As a creator and New Yorker, my inspiration draws from the grandeur of historical architecture, the rugged beauty of industrialism, and the extravagant fantasy of haute couture fashion. New York City, with its rich history and ever-evolving landscape, feels like an endless treasure trove. Walking its streets is like stepping into a living museum, connecting to generations past through the artifacts they left behind. Iconic buildings like the Waldorf, the Plaza, and the New York Public Library tell stories of an era when craftsmanship reigned, and beauty was in the details.

When asked why I do what I do, I realized it’s because of the legacy left by the people before us—the luxury and beauty they created. New York is a testament to their artistry, reminding us that we too can leave our mark. In a world of mass production, my work is a return to the time and care once given to handmade items. I want my jewelry to be seen as a piece of art, a piece of history, and a piece of me.

I'm honored to be part of the American Craft Council 2024 Emerging Artist Cohort and my local artist guilds. My story, like my jewelry, is rooted in history yet constantly evolving—just like the city I once called home.

I want my jewelry to be seen-as a piece of art, a piece of history, a piece of me.
